海外便り セブ編　VOICE FROM CEBU, PHILIPPINES

大航海時代の1519年、ポルトガル人のマゼランがスペイン艦隊を率いて西回りでモルッカ諸島（香料諸島）に到達するルートを開拓するために船出、南米大陸南端のマゼラン海峡を発見して太平洋を横断しスペインに帰る途中、命を落としたのがフィリピンのセブです。彼の船団はその後1522年にスペインに戻り人類史上初の世界一周を達成しました。　　現在、セブにはCebu Yacht Clubや沢山のシップヤードがあり、プレジャーボートから本船の建造、修理など、様々なマリンシーンを見ることができます。長く海上係留していて痛みが進んだヨットも近くのシップヤードで上架、修理できそうです。（みち）

In 1519 during the Age of Exploration, a Portuguese captain Magellan started sailing westward from Spain to find a route to Moluccas Islands, so-called Spice Islands, passing through a strait named Magellan Strait after him at southern end of South America Continent toward the Pacific Ocean, however he was killed at Cebu, Philippines on his way back to Spain. His fleet returned to Spain a year later and was honored as the first men who achieved circumnavigation.       Now here, many marine scenes can be seen at Cebu Yacht Club and many shipyards. A sailing boat which has been moored so long years on water that have been badly damaged may be repaired in a dry-dock at the shipyard. (michi)
